We used to drum for Pearl Jam…now what do we do? Well, PLENTY!
Dave Krusen v.2009
The illustrious B at TheSkyIScrape unearthed a GREAT interview with Ten drummer Dave Krusen, and that got us thinking – what are other former Pearl Jam drummers up to these days?
Jack Irons from www.JackIrons.com
Jack Irons’ latest drumming gig is with former Distillers frontwoman Brody Dalle’s current band Spinnerette. The full-length album “Ghetto Love” is available this spring, and a 4-song preview EP is available from the Spinnerette website. The remix of Sex Bomb drops March 30th, 2009.
Matt Chamberlain
San Pedro, CA grows great musicians! EV pal Mike Watt hails from Pedro, and fellow native Matt Chamberlain (drummer on the live version of “Alive” featured on the “Stanley Son Of Theodore” Sony Sampler) is one of the busiest drummers in rock. His main gig has been playing and touring with (one of TFT Kathy’s faves) Tori Amos, however Matt also has played on and off with PJ pals Critters Buggin’ and has a band called Floratone with the legendary Bill Frisell (remember him from the Northwest School Benefit in 2005?). He also has a solo effort available soon, and will be playing in a duo with Brad Mehldau in San Francisco on May 15, 2009.
Dave Abbruzzese and Laura Whisman, 2006
Dave Abbruzzese certainly kept very busy in his post Pearl Jam life with Green Romance Orchestra and label Free Association Records, though both have been on hiatus for a while. Publicly, Dave has been a little quiet the past couple of years; his latest contribution appears to be adding drums to funk guitarist Stevie Salas’ 2007 release The Sun and The Earth. On a personal note, TFT remembers hearing a great story of Dave reconnecting and marrying his junior high school sweetheart Laura Whisman, and found the article in the Dallas Morning News archives here.
Thanks for the inspiration, B!

Ok, I’ll be the one to start =) … _krusen was PJ’s best drummer!!!!!!!!!!!_
discuss.
Illustrious? I’ll take that.
Come on, JR. Matt Cameron is PJ’s best drummer. Hand freakin’ down.
Cameron – easily has the crown
Dave Abbruzzese blows all the others away !!
Jack Irons has always been my favorite… at least for studio albums, including songwriting and creative inspiration for Ed… as far as the best live drummer, I’d say it’s a tie between Abbruzzese and Cameron. But I’d take Jack back any day because of the presence he adds in the studio on a creative level.
That’s so cool zk because Yield is my favorite PJ album, yet Dave and Matt are also my favorites. I liked Dave’s tenure, but feel like Matt is the right drummer for them. I respect Jack and his place in PJ history.
Jack – he had the best sound (In My Tree, GTF), Dave A. was the worst (cymbals, cymbals, cymbals and nothing but cymbals)
Dave was good,Jack took some getting used to,but Matt is the MAN!
Just to say it briefly – with respect to all the others: Jack´s drumming was soooo special. I will never get used to hear Matt playing GTF or IMT.
Где-то я уже нечто аналогичное читал, причём практически один в один…
A fantastic read….very literate and informative. Many thanks….what theme is this you are using and also, where is your RSS button ?
Интересный пост, спасибо. Меня интересует только вопрос – будет ли продолжение?
Dave is the best drummer in PJ’s history. Just listen how he uses plenty of fills in every song despite the others
Dave Abbruzzese was PJ’s best drummer….not even a question!
