Better Late Than Never – Berlin

by Kathy Davis on August 17, 2009

Judging by the setlist alone, courtesy Sea at the Official Message Board, it seems our Pearl Jam boys were boffo in Berlin:

August 15, 2009 Berlin, Germany, Wuhlheide
Opening band: Gomez
Set List: Why Go, Hail Hail, The Fixer, Corduroy, I Am Mine, Nothing As It Seems, Untitled, MFC, Gods’ Dice, Even Flow, Unemployable, Severed Hand, Light Years, Daughter/(Blitzkrieg Bop), Got Some, Glorified G, Brother, Insignificance, Do The Evolution

1st encore: Bee Girl, Better Man/(Save It For Later), Given To Fly, Hard To Imagine, Alive

2nd encore: Angie (part/chorus. Rolling Stones), Small Town, Faithfull, Sonic Reducer, Rockin’ In The Free World, Yellow Ledbetter

These notes come to us via InsideTheRockPosterFrame:

- Ed was on stage listening to Gomez.
- Intro: Metamorphosis 2 (unconfirmed) – P. Glass
- Between Corduroy and I Am Mine Ed says hi and speaks to the crowd in German – something about being happy in the summer night…
- Ed moonwalked at the start of Glorified G
- Ed speaks German after Better Man – wishing a newly married couple good luck
- Alive is slower that usual

Ed also spoke German after RITFW, and Bugs Mailing List member Tjeerd was the lucky fella to get Ed’s handwritten note containing the phonetically written German he spoke prior to the song. Dan W. from Bugs translates: “We have played this song many times before but never here (in Berlin). I think playing it here, has a big meaning.” Danny surmises (correctly we think)  that Ed is referring to the Berlin wall, which came down 20 years ago this November.
