The Pearl Jams are playing in their own World Series of Rock, and winning for a second night in a row….Backspacer track “Speed of Sound” makes it’s debut, and the seldom played Yield track “Push Me Pull Me” is trotted out for the first time since September 19, 1998 (last heard live at Constitution Hall in Washington D.C.)
The spectacular Mickelodeon captures “Push Me” on video:
as well as Ed and Mike joining Social Distortion for “Ball and Chain”:

Looks like the series continues, with what may be: Dr. Smith from Lost In Space (in red), Vina the Orion Slave girl from Star Trek (the green woman), a Jawa from Star Wars (red eyes), Joe Strummer, Vampira, the Ed Wood film character…amongst others. Tom Tomorrow has this to say about the poster series:
In response to a number of questions, yes I did a series of four posters for the Philly shows this week which will form one large scene when placed next to each other (though with gaps left in the images between each poster so they don’t have to be jammed right up against each other to look right, if that makes sense).
Since these were for a series of shows the week of Halloween, my idea was to have a giant retro pop-culture costume-party theme — superheroes, robots, space people, monsters, etc., along with a number of band-related/requested “cameos” in the background, all (at least in my mind’s eye) comprising the audience to the last shows at the Spectrum.
The trick was to design four posters which would each stand alone, would work as a larger image when the full set was displayed together, and would work when displayed in sets of two or three. I knew that some people would be attending all four shows and I wanted to create something special for them, but I didn’t want anyone who could only attend one or two shows feeling that they “had” to get the entire set.
As for questions about a signed and numbered edition of the set — definitely not until after the New Year. I’m still recuperating from the Chicago poster sale.
Also: apparently the images are also being used on shirts. Last night was the first I’d heard about that. I guess you can form a larger image with those as well, if you get three other friends together and each wear a different night’s shirt …
Our pal Mick Muise has some more photos, as did Solat13 (Joe Mira) on the Message Pit. Here’s a wee gallery:

Other Philly 2 notes: “Wishlist” was dedicated to Leftfielder (and former Seattle Mariner) Raul Ibanez of the Philadelphia Phillies (a U.S. baseball team playing in the World Series Championship agains the New York Yankees, for those of you in the other parts of the world), leading to a “Rauuuuuuuuuuul” and “Yankees suck” chant before the song started. “Given to Fly” is dedicated to Phillies rightfielder Shane Victorino (who used to play for the San Diego Padres and is a native of Hawaii known as “The Flyin’ Hawaiian”). The band played the original version of “Garden”, not the reinvented version with the heavy metal beginning. Since there were seats behind the stage, the band plays “Last Kiss” facing rear stage crowd.
To round things out, here are four pictures from the www.SocialDistortion.com of the gang Soundchecking “Ball and Chain” and “Down”. Awesome!

nice Austin City Limits shirt, Ed!

One of my favorite moments was the crowd singing the opening of Betterman to which Ed replied during the pause, “That’s fucking beautiful!”
It was a great show. Can’t wait for the next two!
Just a quick correction – Shane Victorino is the Phillies’ center fielder (Jayson Werth plays right).
Thanks Graham, I was misinformed!
