Hi kids! I bet you thought that last Pearl Jam show in San Diego did me in! No, that wasn’t my undoing – there was a very sad death in my family (my nephew, 28-year-old Nick Glasgow – please read about his battle with Leukemia here) and then I had a bout with the Swine Flu (hubby and me both got it-MAN does it leave you tired afterward!). Real life has a way of creeping in once in a while. Needless to day, I took a bit of a break from updating my beloved TwoFeetThick.com…but now I’m back on Two Feet, lol! I can’t think of a better way to get things rolling once more than some reports from Pearl Jam Night 1 at the Wachovia Spectrum. So let’s roll!
Here’s the setlist from the Message Pit, thanks to relayer PJ10Eddie and post moderator CantKeepMeDown:
Main Set: Corduroy, Whipping, Hail Hail, Supersonic, Dissident, Unthought Known, Faithful, Parachutes, Unemployable, Immortality, Green Disease, Not For You (Modern Girl tag), Rival (first appearance in 6 plus years-last played July 3, 2003 in Mansfield, MA) , Nothingman, Ghost (first appearance in 6 plus years-last played July 11, 2003 in Mansfield, MA) , Do the Evolution, Why Go
Encore 1: Bee Girl, Just Breathe (w/ Philly String Quartet), The End (w/ Philly String Quartet), All Those Yesterdays, State of Love and Trust, Mankind, The Fixer, Go
Encore 2: Daughter, Love Reign O’er Me, Black, Leash, Rearviewmirror, Rockin in the Free World
Reported soundchecks (not in order): No Way, Love Boat Captain, The End, Just Breathe, Ghost (!)
Some notes about what went down: Intro music was “Rocky’s Theme” (Gonna Fly Now)- taken from the 1976 movie “Rocky” starring Sylvester Stallone. In case you didn’t know, the film is set in Philly, and there is a bronze statue of Stallone as Rocky at the Philadelphia Art Museum, home of the “Rocky steps” that he ran up in the original film.

Matt is using glow in the dark drum sticks; there was a “Let’s go Phillies” chant during the encore. Ed mentions ”By Saturday 2 a.m, we will (have played) every song we know!” He also says that he and Stone read the “bullshit” on the message board about Stone quitting, leading to Mankind!
“We belong together” tag is featured on “Black”, and the “Daughter” tag is not a specific song but a “call and response” singalong. AtTheSpectrum tweets Ed saying, “There’s a reason why bands like to play in this room. It sounds great in here.”, and reported that a Spectrum Retrospective Tribute video played prior to the set. And here is the video:
The Tom Tomorrow designed unique show poster and T-Shirt features many iconic people – and robots!

Oh, how I heart Tom Tomorrow’s thought-provoking designs! Spot the icons: amongst others, up in the front few rows, I see Robby The Robot from 60′s TV Show “Lost in Space”, pin-up girl Bettie Page, Adam West as Batman, Frankenstein, famous Philadelphia 76er basketball great Julius Erving aka Dr. J, Bob Denver as Gilligan from “Gilligan’s Island”, Johnny Ramone…who else is there? Is that J. Edgar Hoover on the right? Looks like a GI Joe head on the far left… Mr. Tomorrow also designed what we presume to be Mike McCready’s new guitar pick: (photo courtesy DirtyFrankDahmr’s TwitPic)

Jeremy’sSpoken posted this photo from outside the Spectrum:
who wants a giant vinyl banner?
Message Pit poster Solat13 aka Joe Mira won the lottery, and shot these nice photos from Row 2. Note that Matty C’s bass drum head is now “the brain” rather than the “spaceman”.

Mikey rocks for Social D as well

It’s a start. Missed you guys!

Thanks.
MANKIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome review! One thing, though, that’s not Mike’s new pick, but rather one he was passing out, at least at LA1. He had a bowl of them and was throwing them out, but he was using different picks.
Hello, for whatever reason when I put your RSS feed into my feed reader, it will not function. Can you give me the RSS page just to ensure I’m using the correct one?
