Josh Freese Tweets About Recording w/Stone

by Kathy Davis on November 10, 2009

Ah, Josh Freese. His legendary drumming skills speak for themselves – he  has powered live performances of so many of my fave  bands – Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle and lately Devo. Josh garnered a lot of press coverage from the unique CD Release packages he was offering on his website to accompany his solo effort,  ”Since 1972″ - one of which was a note from our very own Stone Gossard describing his favorite song from Freese’s album as well as a song and a video about the buyer of the package.

So it has been interesting to read Josh’s recent Twitter posts, in particular this one from November 9th, with photo:

“Just recorded a quicky w/ Stone Gossard at his bitchin studio. Soundcheck w/ Devo soon.”  Hmmmmm… And here is the related photo he posted:  FreeseTwitPic1

So was Stoney just there because it’s his studio, or did they record a song? Or did someone buy the 5K package for Josh’s album and they made good on it? Veddy interesting….

A few more PJ-related archival tweets from Mr. Freese:

From earlier in the day Nov. 9th:  Off 2breakfast with @mjkeenan in Seattle. Good gig last nite. Had both the badass drummer “Matts” there (Cameron AND Chamberlain).

From Nov. 8th:  SF shows=great! In Seattle now for shows 2night and 2morrow. Recording w/pal Stone Gossard 2morrow B4 night 2 of DEVO in Grungeville, USA

Pearl Jam may have dressed up like DEVO for Halloween, but Josh is actually in the band! Here’s a  tweet  and photo:

Nov. 3rd:  Backstage at first night of DEVO tour in Hollywood.

Finally, Josh’s tweet from Oct. 6th:

Good 2 see my old pals Pearl Jam 2nite. Stoney G and Matt Cameron makin’ it happen. FreesePass

Rock!

Devil’s advocate: Josh taking over for Matt when he goes on tour with Soundgarden?

Wait, there are rumors of a Soundgarden reunion? When did these start bubbling? Last I heard, Chris Cornell wanted NOTHING to do with any of his past music?(Soundgarden OR Audioslave) Not to mention, I think Matt is more dedicated to PJ now, so I am not sure I’d automatically count him in on a possible Soundgarden reunion anyway.
