Eddie Vedder to Honor Springsteen at Kennedy Honors

by John Reynolds on December 3, 2009

TwoFeetThick.com has gotten word that Eddie Vedder and Ben Harper are performing in Washington D.C. this Sunday December 6 at the 32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors, specifically to honor one of this year’s honorees: Bruce Springsteen.

As our readers know, we’re not usually in the rumor business, but from what we’ve been told, it looks like it’s gonna happen. With just a few days until the performance, if this helps get a Pearl Jam fan or two in the building, it hopefully will be worth it.

Without fact-checking all 31 past ceremonies, the honorees at this event usually are guests of the President and First Lady of the United States, and don’t often perform themselves.

To quote the website:

The annual Honors Gala has become the highlight of the Washington cultural year, and its broadcast on CBS is a high point of the television season. On Sunday, December 6, in a star-studded celebration on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage, produced by George Stevens Jr. and Michael Stevens, the 2009 Honorees will be saluted by great performers from New York, Hollywood, and the arts capitals of the world. Seated with the President of the United States and Mrs. Obama, the Honorees will accept the thanks of their peers and fans through performances and heartfelt tributes.

The Honors Gala will be recorded for broadcast on the CBS Network for the 32nd consecutive year as a two-hour primetime special on Tuesday, December 29 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT).

Update: It looks like Ed is in the house … not the House, but close. According to the Washington Post, Ed attended the pre-Honors gala, met Melissa Etheridge and drank some fancy wine. We wonder if he swigged right from the bottle and passed it around, but yeah, probably not.

Stay tuned tonight for possible updates. Apparently Meryl Streep is a big follower of ours and she’s going to tweet updates as they happen. Ok, maybe not, hopefully someone will!
