The Green Gossip website Ecorazzi.com (just how many green gossip sites are there?) is reporting that China is in discussions with Pearl Jam and other acts to perform at a free concert April 17th, 2010 which is the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.
Organizers have already signed up such acts as the Black Eyed Peas, Aerosmith, and legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — with others like Pearl Jam, Lady Gaga, Green Day, and 50 Cent also in discussions to perform.
Of course, this may never happen, but the possibility of it is certainly interesting. We also particularly like the last line of the article:
Organizers are hoping more than 100,000 people attend the event. Hopefully, most of them won’t choke on Beijing’s air pollution in the process.

I couldn’t imagine PJ playing in China
Not likely. Pretty sure Soundgarden will be touring west coast in April.
What….?! What about Indonesia….? Not even a rumor….
poor us…
-sigh-
I thought artists who played at the Tibetan Freedom Concerts were pretty much banned from entering China
aerosmith have confirmed they will NOT be there.
So they can play in China but haven’t been to Texas (outside of ACL) in over six years. Lame.
Oh please say this is true; I’ve been living in China for 8 years now and only made it to two Pearl Jam shows in that time. I’ve been hoping for so long that they would come ANYWHERE near here so I can go, but no luck. When Sonic Youth came to Shanghai in ’06 I thought that Pearl Jam would follow soon behind but then Bjork pulled her stunt and all good bands w/ political histories were nixed. This would be a MAJOR event in PJ history!
(Taiwan doesn’t count; if they had been to Hong Kong I’d say it kinda counts)
allergy is awesome… I just love to go and eat every anti allergic
The more I hear about China, the more I want to go! I’m a little scared about the quality control there, though…
