Just Breathe, and Rise

by Kathy Davis on April 10, 2010

Hey kids – I’ve been on a jury in a murder trial (no joke) and kind of out of commission for a few weeks, but I’m baaaa-aaack! Granted, the Pearl Jam news hasn’t been burning up the interwebs too much, but don’t worry, tour is just around the corner!   I’ll dip my foot back in the TwoFeetThick news pool with a couple of wee bits of info.

First up, RollingStone.com reminded us that “Just Breathe” is still on the Billboard Hot 100 chart!  That’s 12 weeks now on the big list; it sits at #93 after peaking at 78.  It’s the boys’ second longest run on the Hot 100 – 1999 single “Last Kiss” enjoyed a chart run of 22 weeks.  Those two-word titles work well for the Pearl Jams.   The Hot 100 is based on radio airplay, so it’s  been hitting the airwaves  pretty substantially for three months. Awesome! The song is also #18 on the Rock Songs chart, #56 on the Canadian Hot 100 and #24 on the Adult Pop Song chart.   Nice!

Ed Vedder’s soundtrack for Into The Wild is a gift that keeps on giving – “Rise” from the release is being used to promote the premiere of the upcoming season of U.S. reality TV show “Deadliest Catch” The touching tune is an appropriate choice given the serious turn the show about Alaskan King Crab fishermen has taken.  Though we’ve been seeing the ads on the Discovery Channel for a few weeks, Seattle radio station The End pointed it out succinctly:

Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder was cool enough to let the upcoming sixth season of ‘Deadliest Catch (premieres Tue., April 13) use his song “Rise” for it’s upcoming promo.

It is the perfect soundtrack for what will be an emotional season as it deals with the real life death of long time cast-mate/star Phil Harris.

During the season, the captain of the Cornelia Marie suffered a massive stroke and later died a few weeks later in a Seattle hospital.

The word was that Harris’ final wish (in his bed, AT the hospital) was to have his death taped by producers and shown as a finale for the show.  No word on whether or not this will air or not.

Here is the promo:

Such is the way of the world, you can never know.

Rock!

Just Breathe is also on the daily grocery store radio rotation. The only other PJ song I can recall hearing at a store was Given to Fly.
