“Buy me some peanuts and crack…
I don’t care if I never get back”
- Eddie Vedder, May 14, 2006
Opening Day of the 2010 Major League Baseball Season in the US/Canada is underway, and hardcore baseball fans will now sweat over every pitch and hit for the next eight months. While we’ve covered many Pearl Jam baseball connections before, we thought we’d focus this Seeker on the listing of those Major League players who use Pearl Jam for their “Walk-Up” or “Entrance” music, i.e. the music played when a better comes to bat.
Jason Bay
This New York Mets Outfielder is using “The Fixer” as his walk-up music. Does the name sound familiar? At the June 23, 2006 Pearl Jam show at Mellon Arena, Pittsburgh, PA, Eddie implored the fans to vote for Jason – then with the Pittsburgh Pirates – onto that year’s All-Star team roster. Special thanks to Metsgrrl!
Lyle Overbay
This Toronto Blue Jays First Baseman has used many Pearl Jam songs for his entrance over the last few years, including “Alive”, “Jeremy” and “Even Flow”

Joe Crede, when with the White Sox, used World Wide Suicide a bit when he came up to bat.
David Freeze of the Cardinals uses Even Flow. At least he did last year. Freeeeeeeeeeeezing…
Wilson Betemit used to walk up to Better Man when he was a Yankee two years ago, now on the Royals. What about Raul Ibanez?
Doug Mirabelli while on the Red Sox came up to Even Flow and when J. Bay was on the Sox he came up to Alive.

Raul Ibanez of the Phillies and former Mariner used several different songs last year
Who wouldn’t want PJ playing as a walk out? PJ is in my ears everyday running the trails to the top of the mountain. Its a spiritual experience everyday!!! Thank you PJ.
I believe that Raul Ibanez is using Force of Nature this year.
A Rod walks out to Hey Foxymophandlemama That’s Me.
Damian Mueller (Brewers) used World Wide Suicide a couple of seasons ago.

This from the New York Daily News today:
ODE TO MAINE
We wouldn’t be surprised if we see Alex Cora on “American Idol” someday. One day after his terrific guitar work on Pearl Jam’s “Yellow Ledbetter” in an impromptu locker room jam session, Cora delivered the goods again Sunday night. After Maine all but blew off the notebooks asking how his bullpen session went, Cora grabbed his toy guitar and broke into a song, one Mets PR guru Jay Horwitz dubbed “The Ballard of John Maine.”
“John Maine is ready to go, yeah. He says he has no pain and will make his next start, yeah. ….
“The ball is coming out of my hand great, clean and crisp, yeah. … Clean and crisp.”
OK, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder he is not. But we’ll be going to Cora for all further Maine items.

Josh Willingham, of the Washington Nationals, is reportedly a big Pearl Jam fan, and during his rookie season (2009), he would come to bat to the opening riffs of Even Flow.
Sweet stuff–always made me wish I was at a show, rather than a ball game…
Juan Castro- Phillies just came up to Corduroy!
Mark Texiera comes out to Alive
John McDonald of the Blue Jays came out to Corduroy on May 2, 2010.
Several Cleveland Indians have rocked to PJ in the past – Brian Giles, Jason Michaels, Ryan Garko.
