“Bring It On!” This 2011 Pearl Jam Weekend Thingy

by John Reynolds on December 10, 2010

If you thought Eddie’s “hiatus” speech in Portugal was widely (mis-)interpreted in the media earlier this year, check out how the media is having a field day with the announcement of a special Pearl Jam weekend next summer. In case you missed it, Pearl Jam’s manager Kelly Curtis was The Rob and Tim Bierman’s guest on the Sirius/XM show “This All Encompassing Trip”, this past Wednesday. When a fan called and hinted at a special Pearl Jam 20th Anniversary event for 2011, this revealing conversation ensued:

Kelly: “That’s funny you mention that. we’re messing around with something for next summer, some sort of 20th Anniversary weekend party, somewhere in the middle of the country. We’re trying to figure that out right now. Like a destination … weekend … party.

Tim: You think people would like that Rob?

The Rob: You heard it here first, folks. I feel the internet buzzing right now!

Kelly: It’d be kinda fun, right? Camping all all that kinda stuff.

Tim: Camping .. yeah!

The Rob: Bring it on!

This doesn’t sound like a standard Pearl Jam two-night stand. “Destination Party”? “Camping”?  People, what does this mean?!?!?

Already being labeled a “festival” – and even “Pearl Jam-apalooza” – debate is raging about where it will be, what weekend, what other bands (when did Kelly say “other bands”?). If you want to take Kelly’s words strictly, Summer in 2011 is June 21 -> September 20.  Weekend could mean Friday or Saturday or Sunday.
