The Pearl Jam Concert Cartography

We here at TFT have as much fun as we hope you do looking around in the Pearl Jam Concert Chronology. And with the 20th anniversary of the start of the first Pearl Jam tour (as Mookie Blaylock touring with Alice in Chains starting 2/1/1991), we figured now was the perfect time for a little infographic geekout.

We crunched all 20 years of show location data in the Concert Chronology to create this heat map of where Pearl Jam has played in North America and how often.

The darker the shade of green, the more often they’ve played in that state. See the Legend on the map itself for what exact number each shade represents.

Venue location was tabulated by exact state, not nearest city (for example, all of the Camden, NJ shows count for New Jersey, not Pennsylvania, even though Camden is just across the river from Philly). Maryland and Washington DC shows were counted together, just due to the scale of the map.

Soon Forgot?

And if you were curious, the five states where PJ has never played are:

  • Alaska
  • Mississippi
  • West Virginia
  • Delaware
  • New Hampshire

The Seattle Sound?

Here are some interesting factoids on Pearl Jam’s favorite hotspots:

  • The state Pearl Jam has played the most is California, which they’ve rocked a whopping 96 times.
  • They have played in their home state of Washington 55 times that any one knows of, which is interesting when you consider they’ve played New York just as much (not to mention playing California almost twice as much).
  • And beyond North America (and beyond this map), the Non-U.S. country Pearl Jam has played the most is… Australia! That’s amazing considering the Canadian border is only about 100 miles from Seattle (They’ve played Canada “only” 42 times).

Who’s Next?

How many U.S. states have you seen Pearl Jam in? Where do you hope they play next?
