Song Sung Blue

A 2008 documentary film by Greg Kohs  called Song Sung Blue has made the rounds at festivals for the past couple of years, and now – you can get one for yourself. “Why would I want to?” you ask may ask.  Many reasons – it’s a truly well done warts-and-all look at a regular midwestern couple who struggle to follow their dreams, but for we impassioned Pearl Jam fans,  it’s a great piece of history.

The film features the story of Neil Diamond Tribute performer Mike Sardina (aka “Lightning”) and his wife Claire ( aka “Thunder”), who performed Diamond’s “Forever In Blue  Jeans”  with Eddie Vedder as the first encore when Pearl Jam played Milwaukee’s Summerfest in 1995. There is great footage of that as well as the story behind their appearance. Also,  if you haven’t seen this movie, I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but one reviewer says it well:

“…for reasons that only this documentary can explain, “Song Sung Blue” proves once and for all that Eddie Vedder is a total stallion.”

Buy a copy for yourself – it’s a great piece of PJ history.

(L-R) Eddie Vedder, Mike Sardina (Lightning), Christine Sardina (Thunder)

Thanks to Matt Mc for the tip.
